UND women's swimming opens with quad meet at FGCU

FORT MYERS, Fla.—The University of North Dakota women’s swimming and diving team dropped a pair of decisions and garnered a tie in the third head-to-head result in the Florida Gulf Coast quad meet completed Saturday. UND tied Georgia Southern 149.50-149.50 and lost match-ups with Liberty (158-135) and the host Eagles (236-63).

Veronica Medon won the 100 backstroke, touching in 58.24. Erin Grabanski was fifth in that event (1:00.61).  Medon later grabbed second place in the 200 backstroke with a 2:04.62, just .05 behind the winner with Grabanski taking fifth (1:38.27). Kelsey Richels took fourth in the 200 freestyle with a 1:57.69 clocking.  Madeline Smith was close behind in sixth with a 1:58.19 time. Teresa DiGregario was a sixth-place finisher in the 200 butterfly with her 2:15.09 time.

Caitlin Quon
earned a fourth place with a 2:12.18 showing in the 200 IM with Grabanski touching right behind her at 2:12.17 for fifth place and Camille Merwin in sixth (2:13.48).

In the diving events, Rachael Waldbillig took second off both the 1- and 3-meter boards. She scored 247.65 from the short board while Jennifer Anklan was fourth (230.70) and Alexis Eissinger (206.55) seventh for North Dakota. Waldbilling went 252.80 from the high board with Anklan (207.40) and Eissinger (20125) in eighth and ninth, respectively.

UND will compete next in another quad meet in Colorado Springs, Colo. in two weeks. North Dakota will face Seattle, Wyoming and host Air Force in the two-day event, Jan. 18-19.
