SAN ANTONIO, Tex.-The University of North Dakota women's swimming and diving team sits in seventh place after day one of the WAC Championships at the Aquatic Center at Palo Alto College.

"A strong start tonight by the ladies," UND head swimming coach Steve Parsons said. "We had some new faces on relays tonight and they really stepped it up. The medley relay got us going and I could not be more proud of that group of young women-- just an awesome job by all of them. We finished the evening with one of our strongest showings in the 800 free relay. With two juniors and two freshmen on that relay the came through with an awesome swim. A great start and we just need to keep it rolling from here."

Three events were contested on Wednesday with UND placing in each. The 1-meter diving saw two UND athletes in the top 16 as Jennifer Anklan took 13th (227.30) and Rachael Walbillig was 16th with a 214.30 score.

"We had a good start for the meet," UND head diving coach Brian Strom said. "The 1-meter is a tough board because everyone does the same list. Jennifer was very consistent and had a good day.  We compete in the 3-meter Thursday and look to keep scoring points for the team."

A pair of relays also swam on day one with the 200 medley relay starting the action with its 1:43.83 time. The 800 free relay squad garnered seventh with its 7:29.15 clocking.
