Roscoe joins women's basketball roster

GRAND FORKS, N.D.— University of North Dakota Head Women's Basketball Coach Travis Brewster announced Friday that Samantha Roscoe has accepted a scholarship offer and will become a member of the UND program. She will be eligible immediately.

"Samantha is going to be able to help us add more size in the frontcourt," Brewster said. "She is a good athlete with good touch and she can put it on the floor. She is a fierce competitor and has got some of the same hard-working attributes as Cara Demaine (2002-04, Victoria, Australia) who starred here as well."

Roscoe, a six-foot-three forward, posted averages of eight points, five rebounds and nearly three blocks per game playing for WA Metropolitan at the 2012 U18 Australian Junior Championships. She was one of the standout prospects at her position in the country as a starter and leader on a standout team that went to tournament's final four.

Her accolades include playing on Western Australia’s U20 State team this past year and the U18 State teams the previous two years. Playing for the Stirling Senators of the WABL, she was an all-star selection in 2012 and was named the team’s MVP in 2010, 2011 and 2012. She also earned the team’s Most Improved Player award.

"Sam is an exciting talent that can impact a game on both ends of the floor," said Craig Mansfield, a former UND graduate assistant (2003-05), who is now the head coach of the Kalamunda Suns in the WABL.  "Most importantly she is a great character, hard worker and a player that stands up under pressure."

North Dakota will announce its 2013-14 season in the coming weeks, welcoming back eight letterwinners. The group consists of four seniors including UND's leading scorer and rebounder from a year ago, All-Big Sky honorable mention Madi Buck.
