Freund is among 120 past and present players and coaches from the NFL and college ranks assisting at the annual MPA on the campus of Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, La.
"I’m really fired up to be a part of this camp. It is a unique opportunity to be around some of the game’s best coaches and players," Freund said. "The Manning family is first class all the way and run a very prestigious camp.
"I’m excited and fortunate to be representing UND Football at the camp. I’m looking forward to working with the young campers and also gaining more knowledge about the quarterback position to bring back to the guys I'm coaching at UND."
Freund ended up being invited to participate at the camp thanks to a chance meeting with Archie Manning at the Minneapolis Airport just over a year ago. The two struck up a conversation about the quarterback position, a connection was made and the elder Manning got back in touch with Freund to invite the former UND signal caller to help out at this year's camp.
The staff emeritus at MPA includes former head coach Jon Gruden of the Super Bowl XXXVII Champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers, current NFL starting quarterbacks Matt Stafford (Detroit Lions) and Sam Bradford (St. Louis Rams) and 2012 Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel of Texas A&M.
The camp runs from July 11-14 and features a 10:1 camper to coach ratio. All positions are taught at the camp and both Peyton Manning and Eli Manning serve as senior associate directors along with their other brother Cooper. Archie Manning is the executive director of the camp that is celebrating its 18th year of existence.
Freund the rest of the UND coaching staff will open fall camp on Aug. 1 and continue preparations for a 2013 season that features seven home games at the Alerus Center. The opener is set for Thurs., Aug. 29 against Valparaiso.
