OGDEN, Utah-- University of North Dakota sophomore forward Mia Loyd has been named the Big Sky Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the games played the week of Dec. 16-Dec. 22.

Loyd, a sophomore from Minneapolis, Minn., etched new career bests and a pair of double-doubles in two UND wins last week. Loyd averaged 19.5 points and 18 rebounds as North Dakota dispatched Mayville State Wednesday, 71-62, and Northern Colorado, 68-65 Saturday in the Big Sky Conference opener.

Loyd scored a then-career-high 19 points and piled up 22 rebounds in the win over the Comets. She out-rebounded MSU 13-12 in the first half alone en route to the second-most rebounds by a UND player ever.

She followed that with a career-best 20 points and added 14 rebounds in the gritty win at Northern Colorado. For the week, she was a perfect 13-for-13 and she has now connected on 16 straight free throw opportunities.

Loyd is the second straight UND player to earn the accolade after senior forward Madi Buck was honored last week. North Dakota (6-3) has won six of its last seven and heads to 22nd-ranked Iowa Saturday.
