Big Sky unveils track poll as indoor season nears

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Northern Arizona’s men’s team and Sacramento State’s women’s squad are the league favorites according to the 2014 Big Sky Conference Indoor Track and Field Preseason Coaches’ poll released earlier today.

In a vote by the 11 Big Sky head coaches, Northern Arizona’s men were picked by 10 coaches to win the men’s championship again in 2014 after repeating in 2012 and 2013. Montana received the only other first-place vote but was ranked seventh in the poll. NAU, Weber State, Sacramento State, Montana State and Southern Utah made up the top five, while UND was picked to finish ninth.

On the women’s size, Sacramento State was picked to successfully defend its 2013 conference championship after receiving six of 11 first-place votes. Second-place NAU, third-place Weber State and fourth-place Portland State also received first-place votes. UND was 11th in the rankings.

The 2014 season will mark UND’s second as a member of the Big Sky Conference. Last year, UND’s men’s team placed 10th at the indoor championship while the women finished 11th.

The 2014 Big Sky Conference Indoor Championship will be in Pocatello, Idaho, from Feb. 27 to March 1.
