“We didn’t make any adjustments at the plate and a couple of untimely errors made all the difference for us today,” head coach Eric Oakley said.
Sophomore Nicole Babrowski led the UND batters with two hits in the game. Amanda Johnson recorded one hit, a single in the fourth inning, as North Dakota only managed to get three hits on the Gaels pitching corps.
Coming off her first collegiate win, freshman Kaylin VanDomelen made the start for UND in the circle. Taylor Hansen came in for relief midway through the third inning, and VanDomelen returned to the circle to start the fifth.
UND kept the game scoreless after the first two innings, but in the bottom of the third the St. Mary’s posted six runs off of five hits and one error. The Gaels then posted one run in both of the fourth and fifth innings to seal the 8-0 win.
North Dakota continues its trip out west, beginning Big Sky Conference play tomorrow against Sacramento State. The first game of a doubleheader is slated to begin at 2 p.m. (CT).
