BROOKINGS, S.D. – The University of North Dakota women’s soccer team dropped a 6-1 decision to South Dakota State on Sunday afternoon.

“We were not ready to play against a very talented SDSU team,” head coach Matt Kellogg said after the loss. “That’s my fault and I have to do a better job of that this week.”

The Jackrabbits got on the board early, just 48 seconds into the start of the game, off a header by Diana Pottervold.

However, UND was able to get on the board after SDSU was assessed an infraction inside their penalty box, sending Kirsten Olson to take a PK. After being stopped on an attempt against North Dakota State, Olson made sure to capitalize on her chance and netted an equalizing goal in the 37th minute.

As the first half came winding down, the Jackrabbits found the back of the net to retake the one goal lead heading into halftime.

After the break, South Dakota State took control of the game, netting four goals off of 10 shots, including one PK goal in the 56th minute.

South Dakota State out-shot North Dakota 19-6, with an 11-4 shots-on-goal margin, in the contest.

North Dakota begins Big Sky Conference action this week, as UND heads out west to take on Sacramento State on Friday and Portland State on Sunday. Game times are set for 6 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
