Hestdalen, a native of Pierre, S.D., led the Big Sky with 62 saves in conference action. She recorded 131 saves on the year, which set a new single-season record at UND. Additionally, Hestdalen set the career saves record at UND, having compiled 332 saves throughout her three years.
Olson, a native of Normandy Park, Wash., began her first year of competition for UND after redshirting her freshman season last year. After adjusting to playing on the back line, Olson excelled in her new role and finished third on the team in points with two goals and two assists.
The two were a key factor in the vast improvement UND saw on defense this season. After allowing 29 goals in Big Sky play last season, the North Dakota defense nearly halved that to 18 this season. Both also provided an instrumental role in the program's first Big Sky win on Oct. 13 against Eastern Washington. Olson scored the game-winning goal against the Eagles, while Hestdalen made a career-high saves for the 3-1 win.
