OMAHA, Neb. -- Returning to the road for a second weekend in a row, the University of North Dakota soccer team dropped a 6-0 decision to Creighton Friday evening.

“All I can say is that Creighton is a really good team, they’re extremely dynamic in their attack,” head coach Matt Kellogg said. “I give our girls credit and they worked for all 90 minutes, but the execution just wasn’t there today.”

UND’s midfielders utilized their outside backs to create forward runs in the early minutes of the game, as North Dakota looked to be very much in the game through the first 45 minutes. Creighton’s Kirstyn Corder scored off a turnover at the top of the UND box in the 13th minute, but that would stand as the lone Bluejay goal of the half.

North Dakota recorded four shots on goal in the first 45 minutes, while Creighton registered six.

However, Creighton came out in the second half, took a strangle hold on the game, and never looked back. The Bluejays scored five goals in the second half, including one with seven seconds left in the game, to post the 6-0 victory over UND.

Junior goalkeeper Kristi Hestdalen recorded 12 saves in the contest and now sits third among career saves leaders at UND with 225.

“Looking forward, the team’s work ethic is never in question, they’re a great bunch and they work their tails off,” Kellogg commented. “We just have to adjust to the physicality of the game at this level; we’re getting pushed around too much.”

North Dakota returns to action Sunday for a match against Nebraska Omaha at noon. Live stats are available at OMavs.com
