SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The University of North Dakota women’s soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Sacramento State on Friday night, as the team began its 2013 Big Sky Conference campaign.

“Today we played a much better second half and created chances because played with more purpose and urgency,” head coach Matt Kellogg said. “I’m very pleased with the direction this group is headed.”

Sac State jumped out taking control of the game in the first half, outshooting UND 12-1. The Hornet’s Jennifer Lum scored the game’s lone goal in the 29th minute.

In the second half, North Dakota fought back, bringing the shots margin to a closer 9-5 spread in favor of Sacramento State. Zoe Foster and Courtney Beckwith combined for four of UND’s shots in the game.

Junior goalkeeper Kristi Hestdalen continued to add to her career-saves record, making eight in the game, while only conceding the one goal.

North Dakota continues its West Coast road trip with a Sunday afternoon contest at Portland State. The game is set to begin at 2 p.m. (CT).
