FARGO, N.D. -- Senior Tyler Rose and sophomore Shawn Johnson captured event titles today at the Bison Invitational, highlighting the final day of competition for the Fighting Sioux.
Rose, a native of Brainerd, Minn., recorded a time of 4:00.77 in the 1,500-meters to edge North Dakota State's Martin Joyce.
Johnson, meanwhile, won the discus throw with a heave of 162 feet, 9 inches. Teammate Roman Waldera (So., Minot, N.D.) was the runner-up, with a mark of 161 feet, 4 inches.
Johnson also claimed a runner-up finish in the shot put with a mark of 51 feet, 9 3/4 iniches.
Teammate Brandon Quesenberry (Sr., Billings, Mont.) placed fourth in the shot, topping out at 50 feet, 7 1/4 inches.
Sophomore Kent Luetzen (Minot, N.D.) enjoyed a personal-record time of 54.62 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles, good enough for a third-place finish.
Sophomore Jesse Fenstermacher (Hibbing, Minn.) was third in the in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.16 seconds.
Sophomore Bryant Halvorson (Rugby, N.D.) came in third in the long jump, posting a leap of 21 feet, 8 inches.
Teammates Dwight Mandimika and Nick Lindstrom placed 4-5 in the 800-meter run. Mandimika clocked a time of 1:56.86, with Lindstrom hot on his heels at 1:59.83.
The Sioux will return to action next weekend with split squads competing at the Mt. SAC Relays (April 20), the Long Beach Invitational (April 21) and the Carleton Relays (April 21).
Note: Senior Chris Stoks (Virginia, Minn.), running unattached, won the 400-meters and ran under the school record with a time of 47.58 seconds.
