FARGO, N.D. -- North Dakota sophomore D'Monte Farley won the 60-meter dash today at the Dakota Duals, kicking off the indoor track and field season.

Farley, a freshman standout a year ago in the jumps, won today's 60-meters with a time of 7.01 seconds. It was the lone event title of the day for North Dakota, which was defeated in duals by South Dakota State and host North Dakota State.

However, Farley's big day was not limited to the 60-meters. The Cottage Grove, Minn., native also came through with a runner-up finish in the triple jump with a leap of 45 feet, 6.50 inches, and was third in the long jump with a mark of 22-07 3/4.

In addition to Farley's runner-up finish in the triple jump, UND received four other second-place performances: freshman Tyler Olson in the 400-meters (50.83 seconds), junior Tyler Colling in the pole vault (15 feet, 7 inches), Shawn Johnson in the shot put (53 feet, 7.50 inches) and Roman Waldera in the weight throw (57 feet, 3.50 inches).

Olson also teamed with Jimmy Evers, John LeClerc and Jared Michel to finish fourth in the 4x400 relay. They clocked a time of 3 minutes, 28.98 seconds.

"We had a really good meet. We knocked the rust off the team and now we know where we are," said UND head coach Kevin Galbraith. "Most of the team is ahead of where we were at this time last year, so that's very encouraging."

UND will now take the rest of 2013 off before resuming action Jan. 17-18 at the National Pole Vault Summit and the University of Minnesota’s Northwest Open.
