Assistant coach Peter Miller is in his second season as a member of North Dakota's track and field coaching staff and works with the program's throwers.

Miller's throwers were dominant from beginning to end in 2011-12, breaking eight school records and winning three Great West Conference individual titles.

Shawn Johnson (twice) and Jakob Bissell each broke UND's hammer throw record on the men's side, while on the women's side, Megan Storstad (twice) and Christine Weinreich each took their turns breaking the school hammer throw record. Weinreich also twice broke her own school record in the weight throw.

Miller mentored Weinreich (indoor, weight), Johnson (outdoor, shot) and Roman Waldera (outdoor, discus) to individual conference titles, while Chantel Urban garnered GWC Freshman of the Year accolades.

Miller also played a key role in the fundraising and construction of a new addition to the program's practice facilities during the fall of 2012: the Gill NCAA Double Ring Tall hammer cage. The first-ever hammer cage at UND, it is the same model that was used at the 2008 Olympic trials hammer throw and is built to the specifications required to host an NCAA championship. The cage, which also enhances training safety for UND's student-athletes, puts the program's throwing facilities on par with nearly every school in the nation.

Miller came to UND from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, where he enjoyed a highly successful three-year tenure as an assistant coach working with throws and combined events. He began his coaching career at UWRF after a standout athletic career at the University of Minnesota.

Miller coached NCAA Division III qualifiers in each of his three seasons at UWRF, with his top student-athlete placing as high as third. His student-athletes placed 1-2 in the women's javelin at the 2011 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) and broke school records in the men's weight and hammer throws.

In his two seasons' coordinating the Falcons' strength and conditioning program, Miller's student-athletes broke 27 school records and earned 13 All-America awards. He has also been heavily involved in track and field winter camps as both a director and instructor.

Miller also coordinated the UWRF track program's $10,000-per-year fundraising efforts.

A 2008 graduate of the University of Minnesota, where he earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology, Miller was a three-year letterwinner for the Golden Gophers and served as a team captain during his senior year. He was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and a five-time University of Minnesota Scholar Student-Athlete.

Miller is currently pursuing his master's degree in business administration.
