UND wraps up program’s first Big Sky Championship

BOZEMAN, Mont. -- A personal record by junior thrower Shawn Johnson highlighted the third and final day of North Dakota's first-ever Big Sky Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship.

Northern Arizona won the men's championship, defeating runner-up and host Montana State by 17.5 points. North Dakota, making its Big Sky Conference Championship debut, finished 10th.

In the weight throw, junior Roman Waldera (Minot, N.D.) placed 10th with a mark of 17.25 meters (56 feet, 7 inches), while teammate Johnson (Eveleth, Minn.) recorded a new personal record with a throw of 17.03 meters (55 feet, 10 ½ inches). Johnson finished 13th.

Junior Matthew Harris took 11th in the pole vault after clearing 4.70 meters (15 feet, 5 inches). Teammates Tyler Colling (So., Forest Lake, Minn.) and Jordan Fisk (Jr., Langdon, N.D.) were 12th and 14th, respectively.

UND will now take a week off before opening the outdoor season March 8-9 at the UNC-Wilmington Seahawk Invitational.
