MINNEAPOLIS – Sophomore D’Monte Farley and junior Nate Peterson won their respective events today for North Dakota at the University of Minnesota’s Northwest Open.

Farley, a USA Junior Championships All-American a year ago, won the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.93 seconds, which was also good for a Big Sky Conference automatic qualifier. The Cottage Grove, Minn., native also took seventh in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 10 ½ inches.

Peterson, who hails from Horace, N.D., won the 3,000-meters with a time of 8 minutes, 41.08 seconds.

Farley and Peterson headlined a UND effort that featured seven top-5 performances.

Sophomore Jimmy Evers (Grand Forks, N.D.) was fourth in the 60-meter hurdles, crossing the line 8.41 seconds.

UND received a pair of top-6 showings in both the 400-meters and the pole vault. Tyler Olson (Fr., Buffalo, Minn.) was fourth in the 400-meters with a time of 50.38, while Jared Michel (Fr., Chesterfield, Mo.) was sixth at 51.19. In the pole vault, Tyler Colling (Jr., Forest Lake, Minn.) was sixth with a mark of 15 feet, 7 ¾ inches, while Kohl Koppinger (Sr., Dickinson, N.D.) was sixth with a leap of 14-08.00.

Senior Jakob Bissell (Plymouth, N.H.) was fourth in the weight throw with a mark of 56-09.25 and Shawn Johnson (Sr., Eveleth, Minn.) was fifth in the shot put with a throw of 53-07.00.

In the mile run, senior Sam Saccoman (Hibbing, Minn.) was eighth with a time of 4:22.32.

UND returns to action in two weeks (Jan. 31-Feb. 1) at the Mountain State Games in Pocatello, Idaho.
