Mandimika, Campbell win event titles at NDSU

FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota’s Dwight Mandimika and Drew Campbell earned event titles to open the two-day Thundering Herd Classic hosted by North Dakota State.

Mandimika, a senior from Harare, Zimbabwe, won the mile run with a time of 4 minutes, 30.73 seconds. He was joined in the top four by teammates Parker Wharram and Colin Cottingham, who placed third and fourth, respectively.

Mandimika also placed third in the 800-meters with a PR time of 1:58.49.

UND’s other event title came courtesy of the freshman Campbell, who won the 3,000-meters with a time of 8:58.76. Fellow freshman Darin Baltezore was third at 9:14.83.

Sophomore John LeClerc enjoyed a strong day, placing third in the 60-meter hurdles prelims with a time of 8.47 seconds, while also making his collegiate debut in the 200-meters by placing seventh with a time of 23.14.

In the 600-meters, sophomore Isiah Frohling was the runner-up with a PR time of 1:24.54.

Throwers Cody Mach and Ian Collins finished 2-3 in the weight throw, both with PR marks. Mach hit a throw of 50 feet, 4 ¼ inches, while Collins recorded a mark of 50-02.50.

In the pole vault, freshman Cody Fiedler was fourth with a leap of 13-07.75, the best mark of his freshman season to date.

Finally, in the 60-meter prelims, sophomore D’Monte Farley placed third with a time of 7.08 seconds.

The final day of the meet gets underway Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
