GRAND FORKS, N.D. --- The University of North Dakota women's softball team opened its action in the 2011 Marina International Hotel Showcase hosted by Loyola Marymount with a 4-1 win over the Big Sky's Northern Colorado.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, the score would hold until the Sioux scored four unanswered runs in their last set of at-bats to overtake the Bears for the win.

The Sioux pick up their second win of their spring break road trip and improve to 5-15 while the Bears fall to 1-20 on the year.

"I just love our team's fight," head coach Sami Strinz said. "When we set our mind to something we are nearly unstoppable. I was really happy with how Michelle Frank came in relief and ended up with the win."

The Sioux committed only one defensive error in the game but it led to the only run for the Bears. Outfielder Erin Geddis led off the first inning with a triple of freshman starter Caralyn Chewning (Willamina, Ore.) and would score on a throwing error for the 1-0 lead.

The unearned run would be all Chewning would allow though as the retired the next three batters to get out of the inning and would pitch three total innings allowing only the one unearned run and four hits with no walks and one strikeout.

Sophomore Michelle Frank (Chaska, Minn.) would pitch the remaining four innings allowing only one hit and one walk, striking out four and pick up the win. She improves to 4-2 on the campaign.

Senior Kelli Henderson pitched six scoreless innings for the Bears until the Sioux struck for four runs off two hits and two walks.

Sophomore Brittany Baker (Buena Park, Calif.) hit her fourth home run of the season to put the Sioux on the board to lead off the seventh inning to tie the game. The Sioux would take the momentum gained and continue the inning with a walk by sophomore Lindy Sippola (Grants Pass, Ore.), a sacrifice bunt by junior Erika Younan (Chico, Calif.) and another walk by Brandee Ybarra (Riverside, Calif.).

Sophomore Kayelee Schoeny (Redlands, Calif.) continued her torrid stretch to start the season going 2-for-4 with her biggest at-bat of the game following Ybarra's walk. Schoeny drilled a rope down the left field line and turned it into and inside-the-park home run to score the go-ahead run and pick up three RBI.

Frank would shut the Bears down 1-2-3 to put the Sioux back into the win column.

The Sioux return to action in the tournament with a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. Central Time against host Loyola Marymount and Great West Conference rival Utah Valley, respectively.
