POCATELLO, Idaho - The University of North Dakota women’s softball team fell to Idaho State University by a score of 11-2 on Saturday afternoon at Miller Ranch Stadium.

“We kept it close early, but made some costly mistakes to put it out of reach,” head coach Eric Oakley said. “Credit to Amanda Johnson and Caralyn Chewning for fighting hard to make something happen.”

North Dakota got on the scoreboard first. Junior Amanda Johnson (Ashby, Minn.) reached home on an Idaho State throwing error in the second inning.

Idaho State answered back in the bottom of the inning by taking advantage of a throwing error by UND.

A costly UND error began a four-run fourth inning for the Bengals.

North Dakota scored it’s final run on the game in the sixth inning when freshman Nicole Babrowski (Oak Lawn, Ill.) reached home of a fielding error.

Idaho State scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the game.

Babrowski went 2-for-3 at the plate and Caralyn Chewning ( Willamina, Ore.) received the loss of the mound.

UND will return home to play Portland State on Friday, May 3 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. and Saturday, May 4 at 12 p.m.

Johnson stopped 43 of 45 shots in the tournament and was perfect in the third period both nights.
