UND victorious in final two spring break games

Kissimmee, Florida – The North Dakota women’s softball team won the final two games of the Rebel Games, defeating St. Peters and Wagner on March 16.

North Dakota 12, St. Peters 0

In the first game of the day, UND defeated St. Peters University by a score of 12-0.

UND scored three runs in the second and third innings.

In the second inning, junior Elizabeth Cudney (Montague, Mich.) homered to left center scoring senior Emma Gronseth (Forest Grove, Ore.) and senior Brittany Baker (Buena Park, Calif.). Cudney also hit a homerun in the third inning to once against score Gronseth and Baker.

North Dakota ended the final inning by scoring six runs. The inning began with a St. Peters error. The six runs were scored by freshman Nicole Babrowski (Oak Lawn, Ill.), junior Caralyn Chewning (Willamina, Ore.), Baker, junior Amanda Johnson (Ashby, Minn.), Cudney and Gronseth.

Gronseth was the winning pitcher, giving up just two hits over five innings of work.

North Dakota 3, Wagner 1

North Dakota won its second game of the day, beating Wagner 3-1 to close out the Rebel Games.

Wagner scored the first run of the game during the first inning, but junior Amanda Johnson (Ashby, Minn.) scored the tying run.

UND added the final two runs of the day in the third inning. Senior Brittany Baker (Buena Park, Calif.) began the inning with a double to right field and eventually successfully stole home. Hansen grounded out to short stop to score Johnson.

Junior Caralyn Chewning (Willamina, Ore.) pitched all seven innings and gave up two hits.

UND now travels to Ogden, Utah to take on Big Sky Conference opponent Weber State on March 22 at 3 p.m.
