BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The University of North Dakota softball team lost two games to Bowling Green University by scores of 3-0 and 8-0 on Friday afternoon.

The first game started off as a pitcher's duel, with both teams only getting one hit through the first three innings. However, in the bottom of the fourth the Falcons got on the board with two runs, before posting their third and final run in the sixth.

Freshman Kaylin VanDomelen pitched all six innings for UND, conceding only three runs on seven hits. She struck out four BGU batters. Jamie Kertes pitched seven innings for the Falcons, giving up four hits.

"Kaylin pitched a great game for us," head coach Eric Oakley said. "Unfortunately we just couldn't string hits together."

In the series finale, Bowling Green's defense remained just as stingy, limiting UND to just three hits. The Falcon's Emily McClelland ended the game in the bottom of the fifth with a walk-off single to give BGU the 8-0 win.

Caralyn Chewning started in the circle for UND, pitching just three innings, before being relieved by Megan Hedstrom. North Dakota gave up six earned runs on 10 hits.

"Getting Caralyn back in the circle today was great," Oakley said. "Again, just like in the first game, we didn't have any run support."

Both Chewning and Emily Bell recorded hits for UND in each game against the Falcons. Bell went 2-4 (.500) on the day, while Chewning went 2-5 (.400), with one double and three total bases.

"Kaylin getting more comfortable and Caralyn being able to throw again are two things that should set us up for a successful second half of the season," Oakley commented.

North Dakota takes on UIC on Tuesday, April 8, in Chicago for a doubleheader with the first game scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. UND then finishes its eight-day road trip with a doubleheader against Wisconsin in Madison, Wis., on Wednesday, April 9.
