NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Freshman Samuel Matthew carded a 1-under-par 71, highlighting North Dakota's final round of competition at the Tennessee State Big Blue Intercollegiate at the Bluegrass Yacht and Country Club.
Mathew's 71 tied UND's lowest individual round of the tournament and enabled him to finish with a 3-round 219 (72-76-71). Mathew and sopphomore Sean Halverson tied for 26th place individually. Halverson shot UND's other 71 during the opening round on Monday.
UND tied for eighth place after shooting a collective 880 (288-294-298).
Murray State won the tournament with an 843, defeating runner-up Tennessee Tech by 19 strokes. Murray State's Patrick Newcomb claimed medalist honors with a 209 (73-69-67), one shot better than Jake Erickson of Southern Illinois.
The Fighting Sioux now begin preparations for the America Sky Confernece Championship April 29-May 1 in North Stonington, Conn.
