St. George, Utah - Sophomore Aaron Pulanco turned in his best round of the season to pace the North Dakota men's golf team in its spring opener at the Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invite. Pulanco fired a 71 (-1) in Monday's opening round, which was six shots better than his previous best 18-hole score from the fall.

Pulanco is tied for 10th overall, while junior Collin Lervick is tied for 29th after an opening round 76 (+4). Sophomore Brady Ohman is only a shot of Lervick's pace after carding a 77 (+5), which was also his best round as a collegian.

Utah Valley leads the 10-team competition by six strokes after the Wolverines shot a four-under 284 on the Pointe and Black Rock nines at the Sunbrook Golf Club.

UND shot a 310 (+22) as a team and stands in 10th, just two shots behind Oral Roberts (308; +20) and seven behind CSU-Northridge (303; +15).  

The teams will return to the course on Tuesday for final round action.
