Angels Camp, Calif. - Junior Collin Lervick posted the top score for the North Dakota men's golf team on Friday during opening round play of the 2014 America Sky Championship. Lervick carded a 79 (+7) on the Greenhorn Creek Golf Course, while senior Sean Halverson was only a stroke behidn with an 80 (+80).

Lervick is tied for 16th overall and Halverson is tied for 19th in the 35-player field, while Northern Colorado grabbed the top spot in the seven-team field with a 296 (+8). Host Sacramento State and Hartford are nine strokes off the Bears' pace in a tie for second after carding a 305 (+17).

Lervick opened his round with a 42 (+6) on the front side, but was able to finish the back nine with a 37 (+1) to get in under 80 on the par-72 layout on the scenic course in Northern California. Meanwhile, Halverson was consisten on his two nine's, posting 40's on both sides.

The second round of the 54-hole America Sky Championship will be played on Saturday.
