GRAND FORKS, N.D.-- The University of North Dakota swimming and diving teams held their annual year-end banquet Sunday and announced the award winners for the 2012-13 season.
Senior Veronica Medon earned Female MVP accolades after a phenomenal career at North Dakota, breaking three school records in her senior campaign. At the WAC Championships, Medon led UND with two top-three finishes with a runner-up placing in the 200 backstroke to garner an NCAA B cut while also picking up third in the 100 backstroke, both in school-record times.
Sophomore Adam Gannon's name appears in the UND top 10 in seven different events, earning him the Male MVP award. Six of those marks came in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation meet this season and all of them are in the top four times all-time at the school. Included in his accomplishments are a second-best time in 200 freestyle, four third-place marks (200 IM, 400 IM, 100 fly, 100 breast) and a fourth-best time in the 100 free.
Junior Richard Eberle was named the top diver after a season that saw him become the first in school history to qualify for the NCAA Zone diving meet, competing in all three events (1-meter, 3-meter, platform). Eberle holds the school records in all three diving events. He was a Second Team All-Mountain Pacific Sports Conference in both 1- and 3-meter dive. He finished 12th in the platform at the NCAA Zones while also taking 13th from the 3-meter springboard and 27th in the 1-meter event.
