GRAND FORKS, N.D.-- Second-year head coach Chris Maiello announced his men's and women's swimming and diving teams' 2014-15 schedule Tuesday, a slate that features eight home dates at Hyslop Pool.

“We are really looking forward to our competition schedule this year," Maiello said. "It’s a challenging schedule that will be sure to push us in hopes to get great results for our athletes. Although a challenging schedule, we are looking forward to competition at a higher level on a weekly basis this season.

"There are several key dual meets that stand out in my eyes. Our road trip to Ames, Iowa for Iowa State and then on to Lawrence, Kan. to swim Kansas and TCU will be a great test for our programs. Facing three Big 12 teams in two days really sets a high standard of competition for us during the dual meet season. Shortly after our meets with Big 12 opponents we travel to Minneapolis to take on Minnesota. The Gophers will always swim fast and dive well in their home pool.

"New to the schedule this year is our trip to Greensboro, N.C. for the AT& T National Championships. We have several qualifiers who will represent UND at the Winter National Championships. We also compete against several WAC teams. Hosting Air Force Academy and Northern Colorado in October will be an exciting conference meet.  We also are hosting our annual meets with South Dakota and South Dakota State."

The season gets underway Sept. 26 when UND will host a Green vs. White exhibition followed by an Alumni Meet on the 27th. The regular season opens at home against St. Cloud State on Oct. 3, the first of five different home events on the docket. Following a trip to Brookings, S.D. to battle the Jackrabbits, UND will host South Dakota, Air Force (men) and Northern Colorado (women) for two-day duals on Oct. 17 and  18.

The Minnesota dual comes Oct. 24th and is preceded by the swing through Ames, Iowa (Oct. 31) and Lawrence, Kan. (Nov. 1). The women's team returns to Hyslop for a home dual with Minnesota State, Moorhead on Nov. 7, the final dual of the first half of the season. The Border Battle Invite at Wisconsin-Stevens Point features teams from Michigan, Wisconsin, South Dakota, Illinois, Minnesota and North Dakota for a two-day event Nov. 14-15.

This season's annual training trip will be Dec. 31 to Jan. 8 in Phoenix, Ariz. which will lead into meets with Northern Colorado and host Grand Canyon on Jan. 9 and 10. UND returns the trip to South Dakota Jan. 24 and brings SDSU to Grand Forks a week later. UND heads back to the Twin Cities on Feb. 6-7 for the Minnesota Challenge, the final tune-up before the Western Athletic Conference Championships Feb. 25-28 in San Antonio, Texas. Grand Forks will be the site of a USA Swimming Olympic Trails meet on Mar. 6.

The NCAA Zone Diving meet competes Mar. 9-11 in Iowa City, Iowa while the NCAA Championships are set for Mar. 26-28 in the same location for the men and Mar. 19-21 in Greensboro, N.C. for the women.

Juniors Courtney Funk and Cassie Walth will captain the women's squad while fellow juniors Ian Ballantyne and Colin MacQuarrie were elected captains on the men's side. The UND women boasted a 9-7 dual meet record while the men improved from a 2-10 record two seasons ago to post a 7-5 mark in 2013-14. North Dakota enjoyed eight combined wins over regional rivals South Dakota and South Dakota State last year.
