GRAND FORKS, N.D.-- The University of North Dakota women's swimming and diving team defeated rival University of South Dakota, 155-133 in a dual Saturday afternoon at Hyslop pool.

Veronica Medon easily outdistanced the field in the 100 backstroke, touching in 57.73, part of her three first-place finishes on the day. She also took the 200 backstroke (2:05.15) in convincing fashion and won the 100 butterfly in 58.75.

The women started the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay, going 1:48.91. Grand Forks, N.D. native Ali Church just beat out Morgan Lynch in the 1000 freestyle, clocking a 10:41.94 time. Kelsey Richels led a one-two-three finish for UND in the 200 freestyle (1:56.05). She edged Caitlin Quon (1:56.76) and Madeline Smith (1:59.23).

Smith would later win the 200 butterfly, again part of UND's top three finishers. She touched in 2:11.92, ahead of Allison Maxwell (2:13.92) and Teresa DiGregario (2:14.34). The 50 free had the same UND flavor with the top three spots all going to North Dakota swimmers led by Rachael Wessman's 24.55.

Kara Fisher scored nine points for her team with the win in the 100 freestyle (53.24). Richels placed second at 54.01. Quon, fresh off her Western Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week nod, won the 500 freestyle (5:08.48).

UND will next compete at Kansas, facing the host Jayhawks and TCU on Nov. 2-3.
