EVANSTON, Ill.-- The University of North Dakota women's swim team is in fourth place through seven events at the TYR Invitational on the campus of Northwestern University. University of Illinois leads the six-team standings through day one of three.

We started off well with good swims in the 200 freestyle relays," UND head coach Steve Parsons said.  "They were season bests for both our men and our women. Overall, a great evening of swims.  We came out with a lot of energy and kept that going throughout most of the evening.  But this is a three day meet and we have two more days of swimming left.  We will have to keep that same level of energy going for the next two days."

Veronica Medon won the 200 IM, shaving more than two full seconds off her preliminary time, touching in 2:03.95. She also picked-up a fourth-place finish (23.88) in the 50 free, part of a duo of UND players qualifying for the championship final. Courtney Funk took eighth (24.23) in that event. Allison Tonsager, Alexa Weyer and Rachael Wessman each qualified for the championship final of the 50 breaststroke, combining for 36 team points as they finished sixth through eighth, respectively. Caitlin Quon was fifth (5:02.97) and Ali Church seventh (5:03.64) in the 500 freestyle.

The 200 free relay took fourth while the 400 medley relay was ninth.

Action continues Saturday and wraps-up on Sunday.
