SAN ANTONIO, Tex.-The University of North Dakota women's
swimming and diving team held firm to seventh place after two days of the WAC
Championships at
The Aquatic Center at Palo Alto College.
"What a night of swims," UND head swimming coach Steve Parsons said. "Morgan Lynch swam a great 500 race
tonight about two tenths off her best time, just a great race for her and she
got us off and rolling. Veronica Medon and Erin Grabanski came out strong in
the 200 IM and both were under varsity record time. Kara Fisher rocked the 50
free and won the consolation finals heat. Rachael Wessman had a nice evening
swim too and moved up. Cassie Walth had a great second swim in the 50 free but
the best swim of the night was seeing the 200 free relay take third with one of
the fastest times in school history."
That 200 free relay team of Wessman, Fisher, Medon and Walth sliced almost
three full second off their seed time and registered a 1:33.04 finish, good for
third place. That time was just .19 off the school record time set back in
2009.
Lynch's 500 free helped her win the "C" Final with a 4:57.50. Ali Church took
15th with a 5:02.18 clocking. Medon held on to her UND record in the 200 IM with a 2:02.42, good
for 10th with Grabanski right behind at 2:02.92. Fisher won the "B"
Final in the 50 free (23.56) to take ninth. Fisher took nearly a full second
off her prelim time with a 23.66 in the 50 free and registered an 11th
place finish.
"Rachael Waldbillig moved up in consolation from 16th to 14th,"
UND diving coach Brian Strom said. "Lexi Eissinger had a good day as well. We
will ready ourselves for platform."
Walbillig scored 209.90 in the prelims to advance to the finals, where she
scored 238.00 for 14th place. Eissinger just missed out on the
finals with a 204.90 prelim score.
The meet continues through Saturday.
