MONTEREY BAY, Calif. - The North Dakota men's swim team closed out the second day of competition at the 2012 MPSF Swimming and Diving Championships with a seventh-place finish in the 400 medley relay. The team of freshman Jacob Berry (Cambridge, Minn.), freshman Austin Smith (Colorado Springs, Colo.), sophomore David Flickinger (Moorhead, Minn.), and freshman Cameron Hyde (Sartell, Minn.) clocked in with a season-best time of 3:25.32.
Freshman Zachary Stettner (Minnetonka, Minn.) finished 17th in the 500 free with a season-best time of 4:31.80. In the 200 IM, sophomore Adam Gannon (Plymouth, Minn.) took 17th with a season-best time of 1:50.48 and Flickinger finished 24th with a time of 1:56.82.
Sophomore Elliot Wilcox (Hastings, Minn.) placed 23rd in the 50 free, clocking in at 21.20.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - In the first day of competition for the divers at the 2012 MPSF Swimming and Diving Championships, freshman Andrew Germain led the way for the Fighting Sioux. A native of Blaine, Minn., Germain posted a score of 275.40 on the 1-meter to finish eighth. Earlier in the day during the preliminary round, he hit a season-high mark of 277.25.
Junior Richard Eberle (Fort Collins, Colo.) finished 10th with a finals score of 286.35 after scoring 259.60 in the prelims.
"Andrew has a pretty good day, both in the prelims and the finals," coach Brian Strom said. "I am very happy with how he performed. Rick, on the other hand, had a tough day. I think nerves got to him a little bit maybe at the beginning, but he settled down and dove a lot better in the consolation finals. Tomorrow we hit the 3-meter where we hope to have some better performances.
"This meet is a lot deeper with stronger divers than we have seen in past conference meets. Each of the top six divers tonight scored over 300, and that is a very good score. It was a good day, and we'll just have to build from here."
