The University of North Dakota men's swimming and diving team dropped to eighth place following the third day of competition at the 2012 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Swimming and Diving Championships. The Fighting Sioux, with 153 points, sit just one point ahead of Pacific (152). With 428 points, Brigham Young has moved into first place. Yesterday's leader, Wyoming, is second with a score of 414, followed by Nevada-Las Vegas (402), Cal State-Bakersfield (332), Hawaii (292), Air Force (161), and Seattle (156).

MONTEREY BAY, Calif. - The University of North Dakota men's swim team tallied 11 top 25 finishes this evening as the Fighting Sioux took on the 2012 MPSF Swimming and Diving Championships.

Sophomore Adam Gannon (Plymouth, Minn.) led the Sioux in the 100 fly with a season-best time of 49.34 for 12th place. Classmate Elliot Wilcox (Hastings, Minn.) finished 13th with a time of 49.52, shaving more than a second of off his previous season-high (50.58), and sophomore David Flickinger (Moorhead, Minn.) placed 18th with a time of 50.42.

Junior George Philbin (Plymouth, Minn.) cut more than a second off of his previous season-best time, clocking in at 1:39.81 for 17th place.

In the 100 breast, Gannon recorded UND's lone individual top 10 finish of the night, touching at 56.63 for eighth place. Freshman Austin Smith (Colorado Springs, Colo.) came in 14th (57.41) and senior Ben Adams (Sitka, Alaska) finished 22nd (59.84).

Three freshmen made it to the finals in the 100 back. Jacob Berry (Cambridge, Minn.) touched first with a time of 52.30 for eighth place; Ethan Shrader (Butte, Mont.) took 22nd with a career-best time of 53.80 and Cameron Hyde (Sartell, Minn.) finished 24th with a personal-best time of 53.92.

North Dakota wrapped up the Friday night events with an eighth-place finish in the 200 free relay. The 'A' team of Wilcox, Gannon, sophomore Ian McKenzie (Norman, Okla.), and Hyde clocked in with a season-best time of 1:22.37.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Both of North Dakota's divers finished in the top 10 this evening on the 3-meter at the 2012 MPSF Swimming and Diving Championships.

Richard Eberle, a junior from Fort Collins, Colo., scored a 314.90 in the preliminaries and a 279.20 in the finals to place eighth.

"Richard was very solid in the afternoon," coach Brian Strom said. "Tonight, however, he started off hitting the board on his first dive, and then just tried to do too much on the next two dives. He was able to settle down and finish fine on the last three dives. Another good performance by him once he settled down.

Andrew Germain, a freshman from Blaine, Minn., took 10th with a career-high score of 298.95 in the finals and a preliminary mark of 244.80.

"Andrew went into the finals in 15th place and ended up in 10th," Strom said. "He has a phenomenal second round. It may have been the best diving that I have seen him to and year, and what a great time to put it together. I'm very happy with his performance tonight."
