GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The University of North Dakota swimming and diving teams will take to the pool for the first competition this Friday, hosting the annual Green/White scrimmage at 4:00 p.m. at the Hyslop pool. It will be the first opportunity for fans to see the newest UND swimmers in the first of a jam-packed October full of home meets for the North Dakota teams.
Fourth-year head coach Steve Parsons and diving coach Brian Strom, now in his 23rd year with the program, welcome back 11 men to their roster, including two-time team Most Valuable swimmer junior Adam Gannon.
Gannon recorded the top UND time in seven different events last season: 100 & 200 free, 50 back, 100 breast, 100 fly, 200 & 400 IM. All seven of those marks rank in UND's top 10 all-time in their respective events with six of them among the top three times in each event.
Parsons will usher in 12 new athletes on the men's side as they compete in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation for the second season.
UND will officially open the 2012-13 campaign next weekend, hosting St. Cloud State for separate two-day duals beginning Friday at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13th's action is now slated for an 11:00 a.m. start.
