LOS ANGELES-- The University of North of Dakota finished in 10th place at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championships, concluded Saturday. UND had another school record fall on the final day of competition.

"We had another solid day of racing," UND head coach Steve Parsons said. "Austin Smith set the varsity record in the 200 breaststroke in the prelims. I thought we had some strong morning swims today. We finished off the evening with a strong performance in the 400 free relay.  I am proud of how the guys kept fighting all week to make up points lost when the 200 medley relay was disqualified but they kept on battling.  Overall, I think we matured as a team this week and learned a lot about ourselves. They showed a lot of fight!"

Smith's record came in the morning session, swimming a 2:00.91 in the 200 breast in a time trial despite having no one to race against. It was his second school record of the meet after he etched a new standard in the 100 breast on Friday as well.

Aaron Chanas-LaRue finished 22nd in the 1650 freestyle with a 16:03.63 time. Ethan Shrader shaved 37 seconds off his seed time for 26th (16:50.68 ).

In the platform diving event, Clayton Metcalf was the top UND performer, taking seventh place with a 233.80 score in the finals. Rick Eberle took second in the consolation final for 10th place while Drew Germain was 16th for North Dakota.

"Clayton finished strong with a great platform list," UND diving coach Brian Strom said. "Rick and Drew were very steady again. We had not been on the platform since the last time at Air Force earlier in the year. Good job by all our divers this week."

The 400 free relay squad of Adam Gannon, George Philbin, Daniel Jacobson and Zak Gosney closed the meet with a 3:03.17 showing, good for 10th place.

UNLV won the team event, edging Wyoming on the final day.
