HOUSTON, Texas-- Two University of North Dakota divers have qualified for the NCAA Zone meet, the first in school history. UND-- in its first year eligible to send divers to the NCAA event following its transition to Division I-- has both a male and a female qualifier in the pre-nationals event.

Junior Richard Eberle has qualified in all three diving events (platform, 1- and 3-meter springboard). He had scores that would have qualified for the NCAA Zones in his previous two years, but will be making his first appearance.

"Rick's been pretty consistent throughout the year," UND diving coach Brian Strom said. "He's probably the best skilled diver we've ever had. He holds the UND records in all three events."

Junior Rachael Waldbillig will compete in two events at the zone meet, qualifying in the final dual meet of the season against South Dakota State.

"The excitement is good. I've tried to explain to the divers what this means," Strom said. "It's fun to get back into the mindset to get into the Zone meet and compete with divers from around the country."

There are five NCAA Zone meets in Division I. UND's divers will compete in the Zone D Meet set for March 11-13 at the University of Houston. Finalists will advance to the NCAA championships-- March 21-23 for the women and a week later for the men at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind.
