GRAND FORKS, N.D.-- University of North Dakota head men's and women's swimming and diving coach Chris Maiello announced his first recruiting class, a group of 17 commitments announced this week. The class includes eight male swimmers, eight female swimmers and a female diver all set to continue their education and athletic careers at UND beginning in the fall of 2014.
“We are very excited about our early commitments," Maiello said. "In all these student-athletes will be the foundation of the program for the next four years. I look forward to helping them grow into the student-athletes we know they can become.
"With strengths and weaknesses on the current men's roster, we needed to address several areas going forward," Maiello said. "We did that. We will be much stronger next season in the distance freestyles and backstrokes. I am looking at these young men to contribute immediately to our program in dual meets and during the championship season. To continue to add depth to our roster was a major goal this recruiting cycle, with our additions in butterfly and sprint free, we have improved our roster from top to bottom."

"I want to thank our coaching staff for working extremely hard this fall in bringing in not only a large class but a class that is rich with talent. Our Recruiting Coordinator, Anthony Harris, has led our efforts and we would not be where we are without his hard work. Coach Dayna Nellis and our diving coach Brian Strom have done a terrific job adopting our recruiting program and executing it to the best of their abilities. All of their hard work is evident in our first class together.”
