DENVER — North Dakota’s Austin Smith and Air Force’s Dominic Vallejo have been named the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for January 13-19, announced today by league officials. North Dakota split meets both days of last week's action with wins over Seattle U and losses against Air Force.

Smith, a junior from Colorado Springs, Colo. (Rampart HS), won both breaststroke events in a triangular meet at Air Force over the weekend.  The meet included WAC teams North Dakota, Air Force and Seattle U. On Friday, he won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:06.42 and won the 100 breaststroke the following day with a time of 55.96.  Smith also helped the 200 medley relay to a first place finish on Saturday with a time of 1:32.20.

It’s the second weekly honor for Smith is marks the fifth UND weekly WAC male honoree with diver Rick Eberle garnering three awards this season.

North Dakota wraps up its home schedule this Saturday with a meet against rival South Dakota. Action begins at 1:00 p.m. at Hyslop pool.
