Millersville, Pa. - Former North Dakota offensive coordinator Greg Breitbach was named the head coach at Millersville University on Thursday and a formal press conference to announce his hiring is scheduled for 8 a.m. CT on Friday at the Division II university located in southeast Pennsylvania.

Breitbach departs for Millersville after a seven-year run as an assistant coach with the UND football program, including the past five as the team's offensive coordinator. He also coached running backs and quarterbacks during his tenure.

“I am extremely grateful to President Kelly, Brian Faison and Chris Mussman along with the UND football players I have had the pleasure to coach, for providing me with the opportunity to be part of such a special place," Breitbach said. "Grand Forks and UND will always provide fond memories for me and my family.

"It was a tough decision, but the opportunity to be a head coach at the collegiate level has always been a dream of mine and Millersville felt like the right place for me to take that next step in my coaching career. I do believe great things are in store for the UND football program as it continues to climb the Big Sky Conference ladder. I look forward to supporting UND now from a distance and watching as that success unfolds.”

Recently, Breitbach's 2011 offense helped UND capture its first Division I conference title by winning the Great West crown and last season, in UND's first Big Sky campaign, the Green and White put up the most prolific passing season in program history.

Fifth-year senior quarterbacks Braden Hanson and Marcus Hendrickson combined for a school-record 3,268 passing yards in 2012 under Breitbach's tutelage and wide receiver Greg Hardin was named the first Division I All-American in program history.

Hardin was also named the College Football Performance Awards Elite FCS Wide Receiver of the Year after catching 65 passes for 1,145 yards and 14 touchdowns, while also collecting a number of national weekly honors. Hanson and Hendrickson also collected national weekly honors during the season.

Hanson was the NCAA.com Offensive Player of the Week after throwing for a school-record 660 yards and five touchdowns vs. Montana (Oct. 20). The 660 yards are the most ever by a left-handed quarterback at any level of NCAA football.

Hendrickson tied the school-record with six touchdowns passes in his first career start vs. Portland State (Sept. 8). He finished the game 16-for-25 for 294 yards. Hendrickson was named the ROOT Sports Co-Big Sky Player of the Week and the College Football Performance Awards National Performer of the Week for his efforts in the win over the Vikings.

"Greg did a great job for us and I'm thrilled that he is getting a chance to be a head coach," UND head coach Chris Mussman said. "He is going to do a great job at Millersville.  We're sad to see him go, but at the same time excited for him and his familiy."

Mussman announced on Thursday that wide receivers coach Luke Schleusner will handle the offensive coordinator duties during spring football practices, which are set to begin on Friday at 3:45 p.m. CT.
