Grand Forks, N.D. - Mother Nature cooperated a little more on Saturday as the North Dakota football team went through its second practice of the spring season at Memorial Stadium. The snow that fell on Friday was absent, but the energy from the opening practice carried over into a spirited 90-minute session.

Head coach Chris Mussman has been pleased with what he has seen thus far through two days and expects the energy and focus to be even higher on Sunday when the squad will don pads for the first time this spring.

Notebook
- The offense and defense traded big plays in the passing game in 11-on-11 work. Redshirt freshman Joe Mollberg connected on deep passes to Blair Townsend and Kenny Golladay in the opening team session, but defensive backs Rumeal Harris and Tyrhy Ivery were able to corrall interceptions in the final team sessions on passes thrown by redshirt freshmen Ryan Bartels and Jake Hanson, respectively.
- Ivery's interception came on the final play of the practice and the entire defense raced to the middle of the field to congratulate the recently converted cornerback.

Golladay is the only receiver who has not worn gloves during the opening two practices.
- The special teams' emphasis was on punt blocking during Saturday's session. UND has two punters in camp this spring and one, junior Ben Peters, happens to double as one of the team's starting middle linebackers.  Peters had junior running back Jer Garman and redshirt freshman J.J. Robertson chasing some wind-aided boots that traveled upwards of 60 yards in the air.

Today's "Rapid Fire" participant was sophomore wide receiver Jameer Jackson. He touched on topics ranging from his favorite catch from last season, what he's majoring in and why teammate and high school rival Daryl Brown left him with a lasting memory from his prep career.
- Redshirt freshman fullback Kevin Bayer has left the team and will not participate in spring practices.

A 92-yard interception return by Alex Tillman highlighted the defensive effort by the North Dakota football team Saturday night, as UND topped Stony Brook 13-3 at the Alerus Center. MORE
