GRAND FORKS, N.D. - North Dakota head football coach Bubba Schweigert continued to build his staff on Wednesday, naming Luke Knauf as the offensive line coach.

“Luke will bring a real tough-minded attitude to our offensive line,” Schweigert said. “That comes not only from his previous coaching experience, but from his playing days at Wisconsin where running the football was emphasized.

“His philosophy matches the direction that we want to take here at UND. He has learned from some of the best offensive line coaches in the country and also brings recruiting ties to areas like Arizona and California that we will want to recruit in the Big Sky conference.”

Knauf arrives in Grand Forks after a nearly three-year stint at Western New Mexico. He was the offensive line coach during his first two seasons at the Division II school before being elevated to offensive coordinator in November of 2012.

Prior to his stint in New Mexico, Knauf was the offensive line and tight ends coach and assistant offensive coordinator at Luther College in Decotah, Iowa. His first collegiate coaching post was as an assistant offensive line coach at Wisconsin-La Crosse.

“I am humbled and honored to be a part of Coach Schweigert’s first staff here at UND,” Knauf said. “I’ve heard some great things about him from close coaching friends and I’m ready to start this journey with him.”

The Stratford, Wisc., native, Knauf played four seasons at Wisconsin as a guard and center for the Badgers. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in zoology from UW in 2006 and completed a master’s degree in sports management from the United States Sports Academy in 2010.
