Grand Forks, N.D. - Former North Dakota offensive guard Chris Kuper (2002-05) will be in the Big Apple in two weeks for Super Bowl XLVIII along with his Denver Bronco teammates. The eight-year veteran will be the fifth UND player on a Super Bowl roster.

The last UND player to appear on a Super Bowl roster prior to Kuper was also a Denver Bronco. Former guard Monte Smith (1985-88) was a ninth-round draft pick by the Broncos in 1989 and played on the 1990 team that lost to San Francisco in Super Bowl XXIV.

Kuper has only appeared in four games this season for the Broncos as he continues to battle back from nagging injuries that have forced him to miss 21 regular season games over the last two seasons.

Kuper has made 79 career starts (68 left guard and 11 right guard) for the Broncos after the organization drafted him in the fifth round, No. 161 overall in the 2006 NFL Draft. Kuper was a 2012 Pro Bowl Alternate despite plalying in just seven games.

During his playing days at UND, Kuper earned back-to-back Associated Press All-America honors as a junior and senior and the Anchorage, Alaska native started 29 career games.
