Detroit Lakes, Minn. - Sophomore transfer Sadie Martin (Elk River, Minn.) fired a 74 (+2) to tie for third and pace the University of North Dakota women's golf team on Friday at the season-opening Cobber Open.

Martin's score coupled with a pair of 77's from junior Mikayla Kromy (Grand Rapids, Minn.) and freshman Dani DelGreco (Grand Rapids, Minn.) helped UND place second in the 18-hole, one-day event at the Wildflower Golf Course.

Martin, who joined the team just prior to the fall semester, and her teammates combined for a 314 (+26), which is the lowest score by a UND team since the 2008-09 season. Martin, who played her first collegiate season at Augustana, matched the best round by a UND golfer from last season.

"Today was a great way to start the season and hopefully we can build on this as we move onto multiple-day tournaments this fall," UND head coach Natalie Martinson said. "We have a nice mix of veterans and newcomers and got contributions from both today, which was nice to see."

Kromy's score of 77 was a personal-best, while DelGreco was competing in her first collegiate event. Both picked up top-10 finishes by tying for ninth.

UND will get its first taste of Big Sky competition this season when the team travels to Missoula, Mont., to play in the Grizzly Invitational next Monday and Tuesday (Sept 9-10). This will be the first tournament hosted by UND's fellow league foe since 1997.
