Grand Forks, N.D. - Sophomore Sadie Martin helped UND post its best round of the North Dakota Fall Classic on Tuesday, firing a 75 (+3) as she took runner-up honors in the individual standings and the hosts placed second overall in their home tournament.

North Dakota State won the team title with a 54-hole total of 934, while UND shot a 971 and had a 19-stroke cushion on third-place South Dakota (990). UND posted a 318 (+30) in the final round as the field once again battled strong winds that more fierce than yesterday's opening 36 holes.

The Coyotes held off Omaha (991), who finished one shot behind USD to take fourth. Minot State (1067) rounded out the team scoring.

NDSU junior Sarah Storandt took medalist honors, increasing her individual lead to eight strokes after shooting a 74 (+2), which was the low round of the three-round tournament.

Storandt led the field with six birdies, while Martin had five and led the field in par 5 scoring with a two-under total.

"I was pleased with the way we finished the tournament today," UND head coach Natalie Martinson said. "The winds did not let up, but we played better and finished strong, which is what I wanted to see.

"We got contributions throughout our lineup and Sadie played great to finish as the runner-up."

UND junior Mikayla Kromy picked up a top-10 finish by tying for ninth with a 246 total. Freshman Alexis Guggisberg shot an 80 (+8) in her final round, which was her best effort of the tournament. Classmate Dani DelGreco and sophomore Emma Kishel both tied for 12th with 248 totals.

The 54-hole tournament was played on the par-72, 6,308-yard track, which is an Arnold Palmer Signature Course.

UND, NDSU and USD each have four individuals competing in the tournament, while Omaha has one extra participant. South Dakota's Janice Baumberger led the 13 individuals in the field and took sixth overall at 242 (+26).

UND will return to action next Monday at the Jackrabbit Fall Invitational in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Round 1 and 2 Recap
Teams battled through windy conditions in the opening two rounds of the North Dakota Fall Classic on Monday at the King's Walk Golf Course, but North Dakota State conquered the elements the best to build a 31-stroke lead on the five-team field.

NDSU junior Sarah Storandt paced all golfers with a two-round total of 151 (+7) as she led the Bison to the top of the team standings with a combined score of 622 (+46).

UND is in second place with a score of 653 (+77) as the hosts were led by sophomore transfer Sadie Martin. The Augustana transfer posted a 77 (+5) in her second 18 holes to help UND improve three strokes and a build a six-stroke advantage on third-place South Dakota
(659; +83). Martin is in fourth place in the individual standings after a two-round total of 158 (+14).

"It was a tough day out there to get 36 holes in, but I thought we played fairly decent," UND head coach Natalie Martinson said. "The wind never stopped and only got stronger, which makes the rounds Sadie and Mikki put together in the afternoon even more impressive.

"I think we actually played better in the afternoon when the conditions worsened. We just need to figure out a way to overcome the mental fatigue at the end of a long day and finish stronger."

The Coyotes were the only other team to improve in the second round and now stand nine strokes in front of Omaha (668; +92). The Mavericks are in fourth place and 50 shots clear of Minot State, who rounded out the five-team field with a 718 (+142).

Junior Mikayla Kromy, like Martin, improved her second-round score by four strokes after carding a 79 and is tied for ninth at 158 (+14). Freshman Dani DelGreco is tied for 12th after consecutive 83's.
