KANSAS CITY -- Freshman Alexis Guggisberg equaled her lowest round of the season in Monday's opening round of the Gary Crossley Ford Kansas City Shootout, then did one shot better in second 18 holes of the day. 

Guggisberg shot a 79 (+7) in the opening round as UND carded its best team score of the spring with a 325 (+37). The freshman from Glenwood, Minn., then birdied the 18th hole of her second round to card a 78 (+6). Guggisberg is tied for 19th with a 36-hole total of 157 (+13).

"Alexis has been one of our more consistent players and she is starting to play well here in the spring," UND head coach Natalie Martinson said. "She made some clutch putts today and finished with a birdie, which was a great way to cap her day."

Sophomore Sadie Martin was one of three UND golfers to turn in an 82 in the opening round, but she improved that score by three strokes in round two to trail Guggisberg by a stroke.

Martin, senior Amanda Fairweather and freshhman Dani DelGreco each carded an 82 (+10) with the latter duo posting its best scores of the day in the morning.

Guggisberg and Martin allowed UND to card a 334 (+46) in the second 18 holes and the Green and White stand in 11th in the 15-team field. Wichita State (607; +31) has an 11-shot lead on the field after carding a 306 and 301, which were the two best scores of the day in each respective round.

UND will wrap up the 54-hole tournament at the Shoal Creek Golf Club on Tuesday.
