Amanda Fairweather fired the low round of the day for the North Dakota women's golf team at the Jackrabbit Invitational, carding a 78 (+6) in the opening round.Primm, Nev. - Sophomore
Fairweather's 78 was her best score of the spring season and has her tied for 10th after 18 holes at the Lakes Course at the Primm Valley Golf Club.
The plan was to get 36 holes in on day one, but the 13-team field was
not able to get all the way through the second round because of darkness
due to an early morning frost delay that pushed back the start time.
Round two will be concluded on Tuesday along with the entire third and
North Dakota State appeared to be in control a top of the team leaderboard, but the Bison were disqualified for an apparent scoring violation.
That allowed Houston Baptist to take the top spot with an opening round 306 (+18). The Huskies have a six stroke advantage on Oakland (312, +24). Spots three through are separated by only five strokes.
UND currently stands in 11th after a 340 (+52).
"Amanda really played well and was also off to a decent start in her second round before darkness forced us off the course," UND head coach Natalie Martinson said. "And, we played better today overall as a team than our opening two tournaments, but still need to avoid putting up those big numbers that keep costing us."
Freshman Abbie Mozzetti turned in an 85 (+13) and is tied for 43rd, while seniors Megan Grodzanich (88, +16) and Robin Hutchinson (89, +17) also broke 90 on the day.
