Trio improves during day two of Big Sky Championship

Chandler, Ariz. - Senior Robin Hutchinson led a trio of North Dakota women's golfers who all improved on their first-round scores by a stroke during round two play at the Big Sky Championship on Monday.

Hutchinson's 81 (+9) was the best score of the day for the Green and White, who shot a combined score of 332 (+44) to remain in 10th place in the team standings. Hutchinson fired a 39 (+3) on the back nine for the second-straight day at Ocotillo Golf Resort.

Freshman Abbie Mozzetti posted an 82 (+10) after opening the tournament with a 77 (+5). She is the top UND golfer in the individual standings currently tied for 35th. She had a 39 on the front nine as she has played that side in three-over par through two rounds.

“Our overall score was a little higher than yesterday, but we continued to play better than we have in our past few tournaments," UND head coach Natalie Martinson said. "It was nice to see the improvement from Robin, Megan and Amanda and Abbie played well on the front side again, but had a some struggles on the back side.  

Senior Megan Grozdanich and sophomore Amanda Fairweather also shaved a stroke off their opening round scores in second-day action, recording scores of 84 (+12) and 85 (+13), respectively.

Host Northern Arizona drew even with Portland State for the top spot in the team standings after 36 holes. The Lumberjacks carded the low round of the day with a 293, while the Vikings were 13 shots off their pace from the opening round.

Both teams (592, +16) are seven shots clear of Northern Colorado, who moved into third with a solid round of 295 (+7). 

Montana and Montana State remained in a tie for eighth after both teams shot a 307 (+19) in the second round.

Montana State's Paige Crawford (141, -3) took the lead in the individual standings after carding a 68 (-4), which was the best round of the tournament so far. Northern Colorado's Carleigh Silvers is just one shot behind Crawford at 142 (-2) after posting a second-round 69 (-3). 

The third and final round of the championship is set for Tuesday.
