Sedona, Ariz. – The North Dakota women’s golf team opened its spring season on Saturday with the opening round of the Red Rocks Invitational. Freshman Alexis Guggisberg turned in the best round of the day for the team with an 81 (+9), while classmate Dani DelGreco was a stroke behind with an 82 (+10).

Xavier leads the 18-team field after posting a 299 (+11) on the par-72 layout at the Oak Creek Country Club. The Musketeers hold a two-stroke lead on fellow Big Sky member Sacramento State, who opened with a 301 (+13).

UND is one of seven Big Sky teams in the field that will return to Arizona in April for its league championship at the Ocotillo Golf Resort. Host Northern Arizona is in fourth, six shots of the Musketeers’ pace. The Lumberjacks have won this tournament three of the last eight seasons.

UND will wrap up the 36-hole event on Sunday.
