GRAND FORKS, N.D. – A quartet of North Dakota football players were named to the Phil Steele’s preseason All-Big Sky teams released by the editors of the magazine on Wednesday. Seniors Ross Brenneman (Omaha, Neb.) and Erik Mersereau were named to the first team, while juniors Jake Miller (Bismarck, N.D.) and Zeb Miller (Ankeny, Iowa) landed on the second team.
Brenneman was one of three defensive lineman on the first team, while Mersereau held down the punt returner spot. Miller was one of two running backs on the second team, while the other Miller was the team’s placekicker.
All four players were also named to the College Football Performance Awards watch lists earlier this summer for their respective positions.
This will be the first season for UND in the Big Sky Conference after finishing up its transition to Division I in 2011 with an 8-3 record and share of the Great West title.
UND will open its season on Thursday, Aug. 30 with a home game against South Dakota School of Mines. The first Big Sky game on the docket will be a road tilt at Sacramento State on Sept. 22.
