THIS WEEK: North Dakota hosts Wisconsin in a key WCHA series that could play a large role in each team's chances of an at-large bid for the NCAA Tournament. The Badgers are currently eighth and UND is 10th in the PairWise Rankings, which mimics the method used by the NCAA Selection Committee to determine the participants.

ABOUT UW: The Badgers are entering this weekend with a 14-6-2 record (10-6-2 WCHA) and are on a four-game winning streak.

Head Coach Mark Johnson is closing in on his 300th career victory (296-52-28). He is assisted by Dan Koch and Jackie Friesen.

Led by last year's Patty Kazmaier winner, senior Brianna Decker is currently 13th all-time in NCAA history with 225 career points (107-118-225).

Junior Alex Rigsby is having another solid year in the net for the Badgers and enters the weekend with a 74-12-6 career record with a 1.56 goals against average and a .938 save percentage.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES: The Badgers have been UND's biggest thorn in the side in program history, holding a 34-2-1 all-time record against North Dakota.

LAST ACTION: Top-ranked and undefeated Minnesota earned a regular-season sweep over North Dakota with a pair of 6-3 wins this past weekend at Ridder Arena.

Junior Amanda Kessel led the Gophers to their Friday night win as she finished with a game-high four goals and five points. Freshman Meghan Dufault led UND with a pair of goals and one assist. North Dakota finished the game with a 35-25 advantage in shots, becoming the first team this season to outshoot the Gophers.

Minnesota pushed its NCAA-record winning streak to 30 games on Saturday, completing the sweep in a thriller that was decided late in the third period.

North Dakota scored first with a power-play goal from Jocelyne Lamoureux only 1:59 into the game. UND would hold the lead until the second period when Minnesota would tally on the man-advantage at the 8:07 mark.

Quality defensive play highlighted the first 40 minutes as the teams entered the third period tied 1-1, but it was all offense in the final 20 minutes. Minnesota gained its first lead of the game only 39 seconds into the final period. Junior Michelle Karvinen was able to score her first of the game, Megan Bozek regained the lead for the Gophers and Karvinen added her second of the game to even the game nearly halfway through the third period. This time Minnesota was able to answer only nine seconds later to take a 4-3 lead it wouldn't relinquish.

UND concluded the game 3-for-6 on the power play, but failed to convert on two consecutive attempts late in the the third period that could have evened the game at four. Kessel was held without a goal until late in the third period when she scored a pair of goals in the final minute, one empty-netter, to break the game open. Shelby Amsley-Benzie made 31 saves in the losing effort.

MINNESOTA FIRSTS: The Minnesota Golden Gophers have been nearly untouchable this season, but North Dakota is one of only a couple teams to have given them a scare. The Gophers have only trailed in two games this season, both of them coming against UND. The first lasted all of 39 seconds in Grand Forks and the second coming this past Saturday as UND led until almost the halfway point of the second period.

The Gophers have now allowed 18 goals in 22 games this season, nine of them (50 percent) have come in the four games against UND. Every other UM opponent has been shut out at least once and UND is the only team to have scored three goals in a game (twice).

UND is the last opponent to beat UM, approaching one year ago on Feb. 17, coming at Ridder Arena. It was also the only team to beat the Gophers twice last season.

CARVING UP THE DEFENSE: Junior Michelle Karvinen is on a team high and career-long point streak of 11 games, including at least one point in each of her 10 games played this season, during which she has 25 points (8-17-25). She is currently tied for second in the nation with 2.50 points per game with Minnesota's Hannah Brandt. Minnesota's Amanda Kessel leads the nation with 3.05 points per game.

POLL POSITION: UND is not ranked in this week's USA Today/USA Hockey Poll or the Poll, but is receiving votes in both polls.

BRIGHT FUTURE: North Dakota recruits had strong showings at the 2013 U18 World Championship as Canadian Halli Krzyzaniak was voted the tournament's best defensive player and was tied for the lead in points by a defenseman (2-5-7) while winning a gold medal. Gracen Hirschy was eighth in points by a defenseman (0-3-3), Amy Menke finished third in scoring (4-5-9) and Lexi Shaw went 2-0-0 with two shutouts helping the United States to a silver medal.

MARKS TO REMEMBER: Jocelyne Lamoureux is now in the top-10 all-time for career scoring at sixth with 244 points (113-131-244). Monique Lamoureux is 10th with 236 (99-137-236). The two rank third and fifth all-time by a WCHA player, respectively.

Both are in the back-half of their senior seasons and chasing the WCHA all-time record set by Hilary Knight who had 262 points including a record 143 goals. Minnesota's Natalie Darwitz holds the all-time conference record of 144 assists.

REMEMBER YOUR FIRST: Freshmen Sam LaShomb, Meghan Dufault, Shannon Kaiser, Becca Kohler, Leah Jensen and Tanja Eisenschmid have all scored their first collegiate goals this season.
