MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The University of North Dakota women's hockey team lost 3-2 to Minnesota in triple overtime tonight at Ridder Arena in the NCAA Quarterfinals.

UND goals were scored by Ashley Furia (Sedalia, Colo.) and Meghan Dufault (Winnipeg, Manitoba). Minnesota's goals were scored by Hannah Brandt, Amanda Kessel and Kelly Terry, who had the game-winner at 18:51 of the third OT.

North Dakota gave undefeated Minnesota (39-0-0) all it could handle as it came down to a friendly bounce for the home team with only 1:09 remaining on the clock in the third overtime.

Freshman Shelby Amsley-Benzie (Warroad, Minn.) was tremendous in net in the losing effort making 57 saves while allowing the three goals.

Minnesota all-world netminder Noora Raty matched her with 50 saves and two goals allowed.

In last year's NCAA Quarterfinal game between the same two teams, Minnesota scored on its first shot on goal and never looked back on its way to a 5-1 win.

Today, Minnesota scored on its second shot on goal but UND responded to out shoot the Gophers 18-7 in the frame and even the game as Furia scored on a 2-on-1 rush at the 14:05 mark.

North Dakota took its first lead of the game on a power-play goal by Dufault only 29 seconds into the middle frame and would hold the lead until Minnesota converted on its power-play opportunity at the 16-minute mark of the second period.

It was the last goal scored until the game-winner 62-minutes and 51-seconds later to send Minnesota the Frozen Four next weekend to face-off against Boston College. It finished as the sixth-longest game in NCAA women's hockey history.

UND concluded the game 1-for-2 on the power play but failed to convert on a five-minute major penalty to Milica McMillen for checking from behind that spanned over the end of the second and beginning of the third periods.

Minnesota went 2-for-7 on the power play in the game and had three power-play chances in overtime, finishing the game with 21 shots on the man-advantage.

North Dakota's record-breaking season concludes with a 26-12-1 record with six of those losses coming at the hands of Minnesota.

The game finished with a combined 238 shots attempted in the game, 79 blocked shots and one post coming by Jocelyne Lamoureux in the first overtime. Lamoureux had Raty beat on a deke but sent a backhanded chance off the cross bar. The play was reviewed after the next whistle but stood as no goal.

North Dakota was outshooting the Gophers into the second overtime, but Minnesota seemed to have a little more in the gas tank in the third period as it ended the game with a 12-3 advantage in the final stanza of the game that lasted four hours and 27 minutes.
