GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- University of North Dakota freshman goaltender Zane Gothberg has been named Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) co-Defensive Player of the Week after making 72 saves in UND's series split at No. 10 Minnesota State last weekend.

In North Dakota's 4-3 win over the Mavericks on Friday, Gothberg made a career-high 37 saves and was named the game's first star. One night later, the Thief River Falls, Minn., native turned aside 35 of 37 shots and was the third star in a 2-1 overtime loss. His 72 saves on the weekend were the most by a UND goalie in a 2-game series this season.

It is the third weekly WCHA award in five weeks for Gothberg, who also earned WCHA Defensive Player of the Week honors on Feb. 12 and was the league's rookie of the week on Feb. 5. He shared this week's award with Colorado College senior goalie Joe Howe.

Since Feb. 1, Gothberg is 4-1-2 and leads all WCHA goaltenders with a .937 save percentage. Gothberg led the WCHA in winning percentage during league play (.708) and finished fourth in save percentage. In 15 total starts this season, he is 7-4-3 with a 2.52 goals against average and .918 save percentage.
